How the Vocoder effect works
The vocoder splits your voice into 16 frequency bands from 120 Hz to 7 kHz and follows how loud each band is. It splits a sawtooth synth wave into the same 16 bands and turns each band up and down to match your voice. Consonants and vowels survive; your original pitch does not.
Tips for a better vocoder
- Speak clearly and a little louder than usual; vocoders reward crisp consonants.
- Carrier pitch 80–120 Hz sounds like a robot; 200+ sounds like a synth-pop singer.
- Mix below 1 keeps some of your real voice (Cyborg preset).

What is a vocoder?
A voice encoder invented at Bell Labs in the 1930s to compress speech for telephone lines. Musicians later used it to make synths "talk".
Is a vocoder the same as autotune?
No. Autotune corrects your own pitch; a vocoder replaces your voice's sound with a synth, keeping only its articulation.
