Radio Voice Effect
The Walkie-Talkie preset squeezes your voice into the narrow band of a two-way radio, adds grit and a noise gate, so squad call-outs sound like they came over comms.

How the Walkie-Talkie effect works
Two-way radios carry a narrow slice of the voice, roughly 300 Hz to 3 kHz, so the preset cuts below 500 Hz and above 3 kHz, boosts the mids 6 dB, adds drive for the clipped edge and gates the mic at −45 dB so the line goes quiet between phrases.
Tips for a better radio voice effect
- Add "over" at the end of lines; it is silly and it works.
- For a pilot, try Cockpit Radio; for dispatch, Police Scanner.
- Keep your own mic close so the gate opens cleanly.
Using it in a call or game? Follow the Discord setup, the in-game setup or the Zoom setup. Got a recording instead? Use Apply to a file in the rack above.
Questions
How do I make my voice sound like a radio?
Remove the lows and highs with a band-pass, push the mids and add mild distortion. The Walkie-Talkie preset does all of it live.
Can I use a radio voice in games?
Yes. Route VoiceFX into a virtual cable and choose the cable as your microphone in Discord or the game's voice chat settings.
