How the Old Man effect works

Older voices often have less stable pitch and less high-frequency energy. The preset imitates that with a tremolo at 6 Hz and 25% depth (the wobble), a −3 semitone shift, a 3 dB mid boost and a high cut at 6 kHz.

Tips for a better old man voice

  • Slow down and leave pauses; pace sells age more than pitch.
  • Raise Trem depth a little for a frailer voice.
  • Add the Cave or Cathedral reverb for a wise-wizard narrator.
