How the Chipmunk effect works
The original chipmunk records were made by recording slowly and playing tape back at double speed, which raises pitch and speeds up the words. Live, speeding up is impossible (you cannot hear words you have not said yet), so this effect raises pitch while keeping your timing.
Tips for a better chipmunk voice
- Talk a bit faster than normal to sell the cartoon effect.
- Record a clip in the Voice Recorder and add it to the soundboard.
- Stack with Choir-style chorus for a whole chipmunk group.
