How the Auto-Tune (Hard) effect works
Every 512 samples the effect estimates your pitch with a YIN-style autocorrelation detector, finds the nearest note allowed in the chosen key and scale, and steers a pitch shifter toward it. Retune speed controls how fast it glides: instant snapping creates the stepped, robotic effect.
Tips for a better autotune
- Pick the key of the song under the Auto-tune key selector (C major is the default).
- Hard autotune sounds best on sustained vowels; talking produces the "robot rap" effect.
- Use headphones so the backing track does not leak into the mic.
